Ratified by UAE government in 2013, GCC Code has become a major mechanism for the locally operating non-conventional ships to comply with the relevant international maritime standards. The Code has been transformed to a fully functioning safety verification method of UAE since Tasneef has taken the initiative to implement the regulations on behalf of FTA. Accordingly, Tasneef developed the interpretations, check lists and the operating system. Tasneef has also organized workshops across the region where local ship operators had the chance to grasp the importance of the code and understand the specific requirements that they need to comply to continue their operations in a safer and more reliable marine environment.
The implementation of this code by Tasneef has contributed significantly in raising the safety standards for the subjected ships to safeguard life, asset and environment.
From 1st of September 2014 the GCC code is mandatory on all ships operating in UAE Waters as follows:
GCC Safety Regulations for Non-Conventional Ships
In regards to the implementation of cabinet resolution no.”29″ of 2013 concerning the safety regulation for non-conventional ships that are not covered by the International Convention (GCC Code)
As Emirates Classification Society, TASNEEF is a national classification society of United Arab Emirates and as per the MOU signed between “TASNEEF” and the Federal Transport Authority – Land & Maritime , Tasneef will accordingly carry out the technical surveys and issue the relevant certificates stipulated by the GCC Code to insure the compliance of cabinet resolution no.”29″ of 2013.
Registration under the UAE flag and issuing/renewing of the navigation licenses will require obtaining the accredited certificates that has been approved by the UAE Cabinet.
